Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) Training
Overview
Hazard Communication (often called HazCom) is OSHA’s system for informing workers about chemical hazards in the workplace. This lesson provides a foundation in Hazard Communication for general industry workers (e.g., warehouse, manufacturing, chemical handling). Under OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (HCS, 29 CFR 1910.1200), workers have the “right-to-know” the hazards and identities of the chemicals they work with, as well as how to protect themselves. Effective HazCom practices – including labeling, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and training – help prevent chemical-related injuries and illnesses by ensuring everyone understands the risks and safe handling procedures.
